A List Apart: In Defense of Readers

I’m very proud to have written an article for issue 278 of A List Apart, the magazine for people who make websites. Titled “In Defense of Readers,” the article is a plea to web designers to consider the elements that make for a great reading experience on the web.

Related posts in A Working Library include “By Design,” regarding the ways in which the design of a text determines how it will be read; “Unreadable?,” a response to Joe Clark’s article in Scroll Magazine about the difficulty of reading long on the web; and “By Any Other Name,” a meditation on how the name of a text prefigures its form.
