The Stone Sky

by N. K. Jemisin

The third and final book in Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy focuses on Essun’s daughter—who has inherited her mother’s extraordinary abilities but with little of the training. As her power grows, so does her anger at the world, and her now-absent mother, setting the two of them up for a dangerous reunion. Jemisin also fills in some of the history which the previous books reveal in glimpses, about how the obelisks and seasons came to be. The parallels to our own broken world are heart-rending. I’ve read this trilogy twice already and will certainly read it again.
