Grady Kendall is biding his time in Maine, living with his mom as the pandemic swirls around them. At his brother’s urging, he responds to a Craigslist ad for a caretaker job in Hawai‘i. Before he knows it, he’s halfway across the world, on what seems like another planet, taking care of the home of a wealthy recluse. But it soon becomes clear something else is going on, as the woman he befriended on the plane joins a long list of people who have vanished without a trace—and Grady sees something that he cannot explain. As he searches for the missing woman, he learns that what’s at stake is more than one life, and as much about the island itself as about the people who live there.
