The Stars are Legion

by Kameron Hurley

Space opera meets body horror in a universe without men. Zan has just woken up to discover she is recovering from some apparently horrific injuries, but she can remember nothing. Jayd, her caretaker, claims to be her sister—yet Zan’s feelings towards her are decidedly unsisterly. In order to recover her memory, she has to rescue a world. Her journey is, shall we say, visceral, and oh so much fun. But Hurley can play and make a stand all at once: the politics of women’s bodies and reproduction are front and center here, in entirely inventive ways. (I loved it.)
