This story begins when Sasha, on a beach holiday with her mother, notices a strange man keeping tabs on her. She immediately senses something is wrong, and tries to avoid him, but through either illusion or magic or both, the man coerces her into doing a series of strange tasks. Soon she’s caught up in something she doesn’t understand, directed to attend a school in a town she’s never heard of, where the subject matter is hidden from the students. But Sasha is an even better student then they hoped, and she ends up learning a great deal more than they planned. A weird and eerie coming-of-age story, and a fascinating interrogation of language itself.
